Shoshani, Avshalom (Avshai)

Son of Rivka and Chaim. He was born on 30.3.1979 in Jerusalem to a brother of Yosef, Yedidya, Boaz, Michal Shachar, Yuval and Yinon, and in the year of his birth they spoke and dreamed, and the peace agreements with Egypt were signed, and his parents felt the need to call their son Avshalom A yearning for peace Avshalom began his elementary studies at the Maimon School and completed his studies at the Noam Banim School in Jerusalem, where he had already been a student of the peace and socialism that characterized him during his life, There he became very fond of the entire team of rabbis, teachers and friends who called him “pure soul.” Avshalom writes: “Avshalom – you were a father and there was peace. You were a father who grants and grants spiritually and materially to all those around you, the grant, the kindness in you without limits – a pure kindness that comes out of your Lev so pure, and peace in your wonderful personality, the projection of peace upon all those around you. I did not remember your anger at you, I do not remember sadness in you, always Simcha, always calm, quiet and charming smile on your face, all of which emanated from your tremendous mental strength … “During his yeshiva studies, his good friend David Boim was killed in a terror attack, and Avshalom was a shoulder to his friends, Avshalom liked to play basketball and was involved in other types of sports, and during his free time he used to read books and paint, and he traveled extensively throughout the country and was familiar with it all along. Avshalom was very involved in society, loved to help and his friends loved him He was always involved in the life of his family, always willing to help, advise wise advice, and in every situation he was resourceful, he was not inclined to idle talks and when he heard things denouncing others he chose to remain silent. He acquired skills in preparation for military service, and was responsible for navigation, a position that suited him especially, and strengthened his strong love for the land of Israel. Avshalom was also strengthened by Torah study and mitzvot that fit into his personality and inclinations. Motivated to serve in a combat unit, Avshalom enlisted in March 1999 to the ‘Raven’ patrol in Golani. He loved life in the army and did everything out of loyalty, devotion and responsibility. After six months he was sent by his commander to a combat paramedics course, at the end of which he was chosen by the students as a model apprentice. “I learned from him a lot about devotion, giving in every situation and at every hour without the intention of winning the reward, yet with the same modesty that characterized him so much,” Avshalom said. The one who always left last to finish all the tasks that were imposed on the entire course, while the rest of them had already turned their attention to each other, who trained a hardened soldier, sat with him for hours on end and did not let go until the soldier achieved achievements he himself could not believe he was capable of It is no wonder that at the end of the course, the entire course decided unanimously to choose him as a model apprentice.Abshalom was an exemplary apprentice, exemplary soldier and a man to I am grateful for the privilege that I was given to meet this special person … “At the end of the four months of the course, Avshalom returned happily to his friends at the base, who were looking forward to it. After the period of study, he quickly adapted to operational activity. During his military service, Avshalom tried to hold a minyan of prayers and suggested that his friends study in a holy book among the military activities, all in a pleasant manner and with a charming smile. On Tuesday, 3 Adar Alef 5768 (February 8, 2000), his broad Lev, the good and the devoted, no longer stood, and he returned his soul to the CreatorAs a result of a Lev attack. He was twenty-one when he died. He was laid to rest at the Mount Herzl cemetery in Jerusalem. Survived by his parents, five brothers and a sister. After his death he was promoted to sergeant. This is how the Rosh Metivta eulogized in his meeting: “Avishai, my brother, my beloved, my dear, my students and teachers, you must have acted in your short years in the life of a common man in his many years and the Lord of the Universe whom you loved so much that night … Adam, you raised an angel, and if a man is hard to part with, how much more so than an angel … you have lost a lily from your home … “Dudu Binyamin:” … a cute, handsome, graceful and pleasant young man. The beloved has fallen from your lips today, and with it the light of light has been set on your face … Avshalom, Avshalom Halaf-Past Like a dream, peace-loving and pursuing peace … To be a friend, And to fulfill the commandment: “To love your neighbor as yourself, you have been devoted and loyal to your friends at all times. A Torah scroll for the memory of Avshalom and his friend Yedidya Geffen, who was killed the day before, was donated in the name of Yitzhak Leib Reinhardt to the Yatir Yeshiva, where they studied. To commemorate his memory, the family published the book Yad L’Avshalom. From the poem “A Child of Bereavement,” written by Michal-Shachar, Avshalom’s sister, on the third anniversary of his death: “A bereaved child is already three years old, with different names: grief, sorrow, grief, etc. I have no strength to lift him / he crawled with us / everywhere / for any joy, / for any occasion, / for any recreation, / with Every time you go with me every day, / a few times a day .// A child of bereavement / Never sleeps / because he knows he will not get up tomorrow morning. ” (This page is part of the Yizkor memorial project held by the Ministry of Defense)
