Shmilashvili, Shalom (Shalva)


Son of Zippora and David, was born in Georgia in the Soviet Union on September 19, 1963. Shalom started elementary school in his native country, where he studied for two years, and in 1972 immigrated to Israel with his parents and settled in Ashkelon. In Ashkelon, when he moved to Kiryat Ata, he continued his studies at the “Miften” vocational school, and Shalom began to work in a factory in Haifa, and was a devoted fan of the “Beit” Jerusalem. ” In January 1982 he was drafted into the IDF, where he underwent basic training and was assigned to serve in the Border Police. During the Peace for Galilee War, he and his unit left for policing positions in Lebanon. On October 18, 1983, during an inspection of the Sidon area, he encountered an ambush by the Syrian army, which opened fire with machine guns at the policemen. Two policemen were killed in the attack, among them Shalom. He was 20 years old. He was laid to rest at the cemetery in Kiryat Ata. After his death, Shalom was promoted to the rank of Corporal, who was survived by his parents, three brothers and two sisters, and a Torah scroll was put into his synagogue in his neighborhood in Kiryat Ata. This evening was organized by his teacher Yael Nagler, and was attended by family members, neighborhood members, commanders and comrades in arms
