Shitrit, Ephraim (Effie)


Ephraim, son of Esther and Solomon, was born in Morocco in 1949. He immigrated to Israel with his family in May 1963 after completing his elementary studies in his hometown in Morocco, and after settling in Gedera, Efraim was able to continue his studies. Ephraim was drafted into the Israel Defense Forces in mid-February 1969 and assigned to the Engineering Corps, and after completing his basic training he was considered a good soldier who was loyal and dedicated and liked his friends and commanders for his good character and willingness to help others. He was married to his girlfriend Ruth and his first child was born in 1972. He was an exemplary father and husband, and his family’s love and concern for all her needs were always at the top of his mind, and the family’s best interests preceded everything he did. He fulfilled his duty faithfully and without argument, when the Yom Kippur War broke out Ephraim was recruited and sent to Sinai with his unit, and during the war many tasks were assigned to the unit, and Efraim took an active part in all these missions, never complaining and every task he was assigned to do was the best. On 27.22.1973, Ephraim in the course of his duties near the Bitter Lake, in northern Sinai. He was brought to eternal rest in the military section of the cemetery in Gedera. He left behind a wife and daughter, parents and three brothers. After being shot down, he was given the rank of corporal. In his letter of condolence to the bereaved family, his commander wrote: “On behalf of all the commanders and soldiers of the unit, I express our deepest condolences for the fall of your precious son. All the soldiers of the unit, the commanders of the unit and its soldiers stand at attention on his fresh grave. ” His family commemorated his name by donating a Torah scroll to the synagogue of the Moroccan community in Ashdod.
