Sheinveis (Sheleg Lavan), Yaakov


Son of Rivka and Jacob, was born on August 8, 1930, in Istanbul, Turkey. His mother traveled to Eretz Israel in order to prepare for the immigration of Yaakov and his grandmother, whom immigrated to Israel on 0.5.1935. During the War of Independence Yaakov enlisted and served in the Givati Brigade. On May 21, 1948, a force from the Givati ​​Brigade was deployed in armored vehicles to transfer ammunition to the Harel forces in the eastern sector. The force encountered British armored vehicles near Deir Ayoub and was hit by casualties. The next morning, the force suffered heavy bombardment of Kaukji’s “Rescue Army” guns stationed in Latrun, suffered casualties and was forced to withdraw. Yaakov’s burial place is unknown. A monument in his memory was erected in the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem. In June 2005, in the framework of the investigation of the Unit for Locating Missing Persons in the IDF, his body was found in a mass grave at the military cemetery on Mount Herzl, in a grave that was attached to Battalion 72.
