Shaul (Arditi), Ezra


Ezra, son of Juvia and Rahamim Shaul (Arditi), was born in 1922 in Meilas, Turkey. During the Second World War he served as a volunteer in the United States Army and was taken prisoner by the Germans, and worked in hard labor. After the war he was released from his captivity and immigrated to Israel in 1945. Ezra lived near Haifa and worked as a carpenter. At the outbreak of the War of Independence, he joined the Haganah and enlisted in the Carmeli Brigade and participated in various battles. After stopping the invasion of the Jordan Valley, our forces took the initiative and attacked the Gilboa area. After gaining control of the Gilboa ridge, the Carmeli Brigade attacked Jenin on the night of June 2-3 and occupied the outposts controlling the city. In this battle he fell on the 25th of Iyar (June 3, 1948). On the 3.8.1950, he was transferred with his comrades to eternal rest in a mass grave in the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
