Shapiro, Ido Meir

Son of Daniela and Uri. on January 7, 2004, began the course. When he dropped out, two months later, he moved to the infantry and volunteered for a parachutist unit. During the course of the route the changes in Ido were already prominent and fast; From a tall, thin boy he became a muscular, sturdy man, and a quiet, introverted personality opens up and becomes more sociable. Throughout the course and training period, Ido invested in a higher level of navigation than usual. Despite multiple injuries, he has repeatedly demonstrated that will power and faith prevail over any physical difficulty. His friends, who nicknamed him “Shafi”, say: “You came to us from a pilot course, and soon we realized how unique and unique you were. Ready to navigate. ” During the course Ido also underwent professional training in sabotage and intelligence. He completed his sabotage course with honors and enjoys it very much. Ido, who was always thirsty, drew satisfaction from every piece of information he had acquired, and enjoyed his training as a fighter. In the summer of 2005 Ido completed the course and was assigned to serve in the operational platoon of the paratroopers’ commando unit. In light of the security incidents, the team worked extensively in Judea and Samaria, and Ido was involved in operations to arrest wanted persons and find weapons. His mother said he believed in what he was doing and felt that he was fulfilling himself. “He felt he was doing something important,” his mother said. Ido, the friends say, was always the serious guy on the team, “the one with the head on his shoulders,” the one who goes down to the details in everything, the one who predicts him as a CEO of a high-tech company. His friends, “but we managed to extract from you moments of laughter and folly.” Rotem Weissman, the unit’s non-education officer, said: “… looking at him immediately, I realized that Ido was very smart. The way he sat looking at his friends talking, doing nonsense, it seemed that Ido saw everything from a different perspective. Someone who is very mature. “Ido loved his teammates and encouraged them, as his friend Shay Schechter described it:” A friend who, at the end of the most difficult and challenging training days, will come and sit next to you in a living room, He said, ‘Be good today,’ and he will smile. And you’ll smile too, almost immediately… He would not have smiled much. Only quietly, only when friends see … He was always serious, proud of his current mission. But when he smiled, you’d realize how difficult it was for you, it was not so bad. He had a kind of ability to instill in you a kind of satisfaction. “Ido’s dedication to his friends was absolute, and more than once, in the event that they lost equipment, he would take responsibility for himself so that they could go to courses and move forward.” Rotem, Ido was so worried about his teammates and knew how to do a lot for others, and he also appreciated every thing they did for him, and he never forgot to say thank you. a lot of years’?”. The last months of Ido’s life were a period of flowering and intensification. Thanks to his excellence, his commanders decided to appoint him as a team sergeant in the unit. Within a few weeks he was supposed to begin the job, but it was not enough. He also did not enjoy the great experience he had been invited to attend at the Jewish Agency summer camps in the United States. Ido fell in battle on March 16, 2006, in an activity to capture wanted persons in Jenin. A paratrooper force surrounded the house where Islamic Jihad wanted to hide, when they noticed a Palestinian trying to escape. An exchange of fire ensued, during which Iddo was wounded and killed. It was later determined that Ido was killed by two-sided fire after one of his friends mistakenly shot him for misidentification. Ido, 20, was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Haifa. Survived by his parents and two sisters.
