Shankman, Dov (Berl)


Son of Arkadi and Duba. He was born on April 19, 1948. In Lodz, Dov felt the hatred of the Jews and was Simcha when his parents’ request to immigrate to Israel was finally accepted – and the family immigrated to Israel in 1957 and spent their first eight months in Israel living in the Bat Yam transit camp “Dov started to study at the Rishonim School, where he studied for seven years and then moved to the Geulim School, where he completed his elementary studies, was an athlete by nature and a clear soccer and basketball player. He was assigned to the Infantry Corps – Golani, and after completing basic training he was sent to a squad commander’s course, but did not finish it because during the training he was wounded in the leg and hospitalized. He was not angry, and always said a good word to everyone, he was kind and pleasant and therefore loved by everyone who knew him, who fought in the Six Day War and was the first to enter Kuneitra. This battalion continued to maintain the country’s borders despite its severe losses. But he was still in his compulsory service and on the tenth day of Mershvan (1/11/1968) during the exchange of fire between the Jordanians and our forces in the Hamadiya farm, Dov was hit by a direct hit and fell to eternal rest in the Kiryat Shaul military cemetery.
