Ben Chaya and Lavinia. He was born on 4 June 1965 in the Soviet Union, the eldest son of a family of three, and after the age of eight, the family immigrated to Israel. He began his elementary studies in the Soviet Union and completed his studies in Haifa, where he continued to study in the Leo Baeck middle school and in the vocational secondary school in the seminary. Gil joined the IDF as part of the Technological Reserve, and in July 1988 he was drafted into the IDF for the first time. He was stationed in the Ordnance Corps, went on to basic training, and at the end of his studies he set out to continue his studies. After being certified as an electrical engineer, he enlisted again to continue his service. He went on a special training course for the students and went on to the APC mechanic course, where he continued with the course for officers of the Basic Officers Course, the officers’ training course and the armament officers course. In May 1988 he signed up for service in the permanent army. In his opinion on career officers, his commander wrote that Gil is devoted and loyal and places a good and comfortable atmosphere around him. He noted that Gil is a professional officer who aspires to expand his training in armaments. After a short period he was promoted to lieutenant. In May 1988 there was an age of malignant disease. He fought his illness, determined to continue his role in the army. At the same time he completed his BA in Political Science and History. After two years of struggle, his illness overwhelmed him. On the 24th of Iyar 5719 (19 May 1990), Gil passed away at the Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital in Jerusalem and was brought to eternal rest in the military cemetery in Haifa. Survived by his parents, brother – Yaakov, and sister – Pnina. He was promoted to captain after his death. In a letter of condolence to the bereaved family, the commander of the unit, Hannah Harel, wrote: “Gil came to my unit after long hospitalization, hoping that he would overcome his illness and succeed in his strong desire to complete his academic studies as well. . “
