Shalom, David
The eldest son of Leah and Yitzhak, he was born in 1923 in the Old City of Jerusalem to a Haredi family in the city with many children. In 1940, he enlisted in the Nutras and served in the reserve station at the Saris and at the police station in Abu Ghosh. In 1942 David moved to work in the workshops of the British army in the port of Haifa. David enthusiastically received the news of the UN General Assembly on November 29, 1947, and then devoted his nights to guard duty after working days. As the fighting intensified, he joined the Irgun and the Haganah in Bat Yam, He completed his first aid course was accepted into the navy under the Israeli flag. David served in the landing company. On the night of 17-18 July 1948, Operation “Death to the Intruder” was carried out, in an attempt to break through the Negev. In this battle he served as a departmental medic until he fell, on the 11th of Tammuz 5708 (18.7.1948). At first he was considered missing, and only after more than a year and a half were his bones found. On the 16th of Tishrei 5710 (9.10.1949) he was laid to rest in the military cemetery at Nahalat Yitzhak.
