Shalit (Vladimirsky), Shlomo


Son of Zvi and Rivka, was born on May 13, 1954, in Kibbutz Nir. He was drafted into the IDF in January 1973. In the IAF, he successfully passed a pilot course and served in a helicopter unit. Shlomo specialized in navigation, and served as a navigational officer. His great success as a pilot, because of his high personal ability, his quick and intelligent grasp of the problems and their solution in the right way, initiative and willingness to invest, work hard, fly a lot and learn, opened the way for him to receive captains of the Yasur helicopter. However, Shlomo did not neglect the subject of navigation, and thanks to him the profession gained a new impetus. He developed connections with various IDF bodies, and made navigational and reconnaissance roles in the squadron a personal and competitive challenge, and took on other roles: pilot instructor, mechanic division, organizing courses for the advancement and improvement of the mechanic’s profession. Shlomo fell in the course of his duty on 20 July 1979 and was brought to rest in the cemetery at Kibbutz Nir David. He was 25 years old. Shlomo left behind a wife and two daughters, parents and a sister. Shlomo was promoted to the rank of Major, after he fell.
