Shaked (Yosef), David

Son of Regina and Yechezkel was born in 1946 in Iraq, when he immigrated to Israel with his parents in 1950. The family settled in Be’er Yaakov, where he studied at the school where he lived, and after completing five years of schooling, After completing his elementary studies, he attended a vocational school in Holon in the automotive mechanics course, but never worked in this field. The desire to serve in the army was very strong, and David was looking for a way to volunteer and contribute to the IDF. David married Ada and went to study cooking at the Tadmor hotel school in Herzliya and found his livelihood as a cook. David loved the sea very much and spent many hours fishing. In October 1982, he was called up for reserve duty in the West Bank. David joined the unit and volunteered to serve for two months as a driver. On Tuesday, 26 April 1982, he drove a group of soldiers on the Ramallah-Latrun road near the Mevo Beit Horon Junction, where David was killed and three soldiers were wounded, and he was laid to rest in the cemetery. “David served in our unit for a year and a half, and during this period he became fond of his friends and commanders. He volunteered to perform tasks that were not assigned to him. It was evident that the army for him was one of the most important things in his life. In his last service, David was hired as a driver for another unit, and he also liked it. “
