Sha’ish, Meir


Was born in 1931 in Tunis. His family was wealthy, but when Meir was young, he became impoverished, and his father became sick and Meir was forced to work to help support his family, where he studied various shoemaking jobs. In 1955 he immigrated to Israel and settled in Safed, where he joined the IDF in August 1956 and served in the infantry. He took part in the Sinai Campaign and continued to serve in the IDF until 1959. When he was released, he married and built his home in Safed. In June 1979 Meir was called to serve as a guard of a military camp. During his service, he suffered a heart attack. He was hospitalized and spent eighteen days struggling for his life. On May 27, 1979, Meir died at the hospital, where he was buried at the military cemetery in Beersheva, leaving a wife, two daughters, a son and six brothers and sisters.
