Shahar, Zalman


Son of Berta and Arieh Leib, born in 1928 in the city of Lwow, Poland. In 1935, at the age of seven, he immigrated with his parents to Israel. The family settled in Tel Aviv. Zalman graduated from elementary school and worked as a silversmith. He was an active member of the Hagana and in February 1947 joined the ranks of the Notrim. At the outbreak of the War of Independence after the United Nations General Assembly decided to partition the country, he joined the Haganah and served in the Givati ​​Brigade, and Zalman’s friends testify that he was a soldier who saw in the battle a holy decree that every young man must observe. 21.3.1948), he went out on one of the armored vehicles to escort a convoy from Nitzanim. Near the Lettze camp, the convoy encountered an Arab ambush and its armored vehicle was stuck. The armored personnel were fighting hundreds of Arabs, whose commander was a British officer, and held on until they were rescued. In this battle, when fire returned from one of the armored vehicles, he was hit and fell. He was laid to rest at the military cemetery in Beer Tuvia.
