Shaco, Avraham


Avraham, son of Malka and Rahamim Shaco, was born on February 2, 1917 in Jerusalem, the descendant of a Sephardic family that lived in Israel for several hundred years. At the outbreak of the War of Independence he was called to defend the city and fell on 11 Tamuz (18.7.1948) in the attack of the Arab Legion on the “Batei Mandelbaum.” His body remained for three days buried under the rubble and later was brought to the cemetery in Sheikh Bader A. On the 17th of Elul 5706 (August 30, 1950) he was put to rest at the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
