Shabtai, Moshe (Moshik)

Born on December 21, 1968 in Kfar Vitkin, brother of Eitan, who is two years older than him, Moshik was a comfortable and quiet child and from a young age wore glasses, and when he was five years old his younger brother Gil was born, Yosef Vitkin Regional State School. During his vacations he helped the economy and read a lot of encyclopedias and books. He continued his studies at the Ruppin Junior High School, and here too he became an outstanding student and showed great talent in the composition. Even in physical education, an area in which Cauchy discovered, he managed to excel by means of theoretical work he submitted. Moshik spent many hours of his time helping his elderly neighbors. He used to talk to them for a long time, play chess with them and bring them medicines from the clinic. In 1986 his father became seriously ill and since his older brother was a soldier at the time, the burden of the economy fell on the shoulders of Moshik the young man, who divided his time between farmwork and high school, and in October 1986 his father died of his illness Moshik completed his studies at the Ruppin High School, with the exception of mathematics, and was drafted into the Israel Defense Forces in late June 1987. At first, he was offered a three-officer course, but he refused to command other soldiers, rejected this proposal and became a NCO in Givati.In his vacations, Moshik enjoyed traveling the country, driving the family car, the car where he died. On March 13, 1989, Moshik fell during his service in a traffic accident at the Beit Yanai junction. He was twenty years old when he fell. He was laid to rest in the military section of the Kfar Vitkin cemetery. Survived by his mother and two brothers. In a letter of condolence to the bereaved family, his commander wrote: “Moshe was not one of the fighters, but his diligence, his dedication, his integrity and simplicity overshadowed the best fighters and became a symbol – an outstanding soldier. Moshe was loved and accepted by everyone in the unit from the first soldiers to the last of the commanders. “
