Seltzer, Yehuda

Son of Haya-Gitel and Avraham-Shmuel was born on the 20th of Tishrei, 2081 (21.8.1921) in the city of Sibiu, Romania, immigrated to Israel on the ship Torus, as an organized member of the Torah V’Avodah movement, settled in Netanya and worked in the diamond profession. As an active member of the local Hagana, Yehuda loyally fulfilled the duties assigned to him and also participated in the emigration of immigrants during British rule. One night Yehuda was wounded in security duties in the Ben-Zion neighborhood of Netanya. At the outbreak of the War of Independence he joined the Alexandroni Brigade and fought in the Negev. During Operation Horev, a “liquidation operation” was carried out against the “Faluja pocket,” in which an Egyptian brigade was besieged. The Alexandroni forces broke into the village from the south and took over part of it, but their assault on the hill north of the village was repulsed. Meanwhile, the Egyptians recovered, attacked and forced our forces to withdraw. Part of the force was trapped inside the village. In this battle Yehuda fell on the 26th of Kislev 5709 (28.12.1948) when he felt the need to help his injured friend. Yehuda was buried in Faluja. He left behind a wife, Leah and a child. On the 17th of Kislev 5710 (8.12.1949) he was transferred to eternal rest at the military cemetery at Nahalat Yitzhak.
