Segel, Aryeh (“Arik”)


Son of Abraham and Leah, the eldest brother of Arnona. Born on 27 July 1948 in Nicosia, Cyprus, while we were still a baby, the family immigrated to Israel in 1949. Aryeh completed his elementary studies at a public school in Ra’anana and continued to study at the Iron High School in Hadera. Arieh loved sports, running and soccer, and was drafted into the IDF in May 1966 and volunteered for the Paratroopers Brigade. He participated in the battle for Samua for only six months in the IDF. In the service of duty, the Six-Day War broke out, and as he tried to gather enemy strength to silence him, he fell into a strong fire; It was Zeitun who chose Gaza on the first day of its battles, on June 6, 1967. He was buried in the emergency military cemetery in Bari and was later taken to rest in the cemetery in Ra’anana. In his last letter to his parents, he wrote: “I leave this letter to you before I go out to defend my homeland, and to protect you and your family, because we, the soldiers of the Israel Defense Forces, must defend the land on which we live. The Arabs do to us what they want … “And he ends with” We hope to succeed! ” His name was immortalized in the local council of Raanana.
