Sasson, Ze’ev


Zeev, son of Bella and Avraham, was born on September 20, 1948 in Bat Yam. He attended the Tachkemoni State Religious School in Daughter of-Yam, and then continued his studies in the Bat-Yam High School in the biological track. Ze’ev, who was known by his acquaintances Zevik and Zabko, was a talented and talented child. In elementary school he was an outstanding student, his teachers praised him immeasurably and he was sent to eighth grade at an enhanced level. He excelled in Bible study and at the end of eighth grade he was even invited to a Bible competition at the Merom Zion Yeshiva in Jerusalem. After winning the first place was awarded a prize, the arrangement of the meeting. He graduated from elementary school with an excellent diploma. When he was in the fifth grade, he was awarded the prize for money and books, as the outstanding student among fifth and sixth graders in his school. At the same time he excelled as an athlete and was awarded certificates and medals for his achievements. When he was in elementary school, he represented his school in high and long jump competitions, shooting and running. He was also an excellent swimmer and also engaged in fishing. In his youth, he studied athletics at the Wingate Institute and also practiced there. He was a member of the Abu Kabir Shooting Club and was also represented in shooting competitions, and was even offered to send him to Tokyo, Japan as an Israeli youth representative in shooting, but he preferred to finish a gymnastics course at the Newgate Institute. The medal was awarded to David son of-Gurion by David son of-Gurion. In the Gadna-Air, he was a theory instructor, and according to his commander in Gadna, Zeev was an outstanding, dedicated and entrepreneurial trainee. He was also a member of Hapoel in Bat Yam. Zevik was a music lover and played a harmonica, loved to read, and mostly read literature. His favorite subject was biology, and he had a collection of butterflies and insects that looked and studied their way of life. He also liked to draw and loved to create things of different materials. Zevik was a handsome and pleasant man. He was always willing to help others and was Simcha to be Simcha with people’s happiness and was willing to do much. His friends loved to be with him, a good and pleasant neighbor in his company, and everyone he knew immediately liked him. After graduating from high school, he enrolled first in the academic reserve in order to study medicine, but before he knew the results of his request, he decided to enlist immediately into the army, because the security situation deteriorated. Ze’ev enlisted in the IDF in mid-November 1966 and was assigned to the Armored Corps, after which he participated in a tank training course and immediately participated in the tank drill. After serving as a field unit of the IAF, he participated in Operation Karameh, served in the Golan Heights and participated in the War of Attrition as a tank commander in the Armored Corps. As a commander he always took care of his soldiers and treated them with understanding and friendship, and his commanders regarded him as an entrepreneur, honest and honest. After a while he was promoted to lieutenant. In his release certificate he was mentioned as a responsible and dedicated commander of his subordinates. After completing his regular army service, he was assigned to reserve duty as a tank commander in the Armored Corps, and was evaluated as a man of principles and a developed sense of justice who attained achievements at work, devoted to his job and filled with the best, resourceful, In his regular service, Ze’ev married his high school girlfriend, and began studying political science and economics at Tel Aviv University and at the same time began to work as an agent of spare parts and car accessories, working day and night and becoming a prosperous company owner.He was a good son, and a loving husband and devoted father. When the Yom Kippur War broke out, he hurried to his unit and was sent to Sinai. He participated in the difficult battles and on the fifteenth day of Tishrei 5734 (11.10.1973), Ze’ev was killed by an air strike of Egyptian aircraft on a “Mars” tank parking lot in the central sector. He was brought to eternal rest in the cemetery in Holon. Survived by a wife, daughter and son, parents and brother. In a letter of condolence to the bereaved family, the commander of his unit wrote: “I knew Ze’ev as a courageous fighter, as a commander with leadership abilities and as an excellent armor man.”
