Rotem (Rotbaum), Menachem


Son of Refael and Shifra. He was born on October 21, 1927 in Warsaw, the capital of Poland. In 1933 he came to Israel. With the outbreak of the riots in 1936, the family was forced to leave their apartment on the Jaffa-Tel Aviv border by turning it over to the Haganah, but the emotional shock the child suffered due to the events was difficult and the mother spent several months with her family in Poland, where she praised the heroes of the ” Defense “and the defense of Tel Aviv against Arab attackers. When he returned with his mother to Tel Aviv after nine months, he began studying at the Nes Tziona School and was a model student throughout his studies. He received Stefandia at the end but gave up and went with his friends to Mishmar Ha’emek for a month of work. Where he contacted several members of the educational institution and decided to study there. When he completed his studies he was accepted as a kibbutz member. He liked to tour Israel, worked as a youth movement counselor, and one of his hobbies was photography. During the War of Independence, he was a member of the Palmach, was injured, and after his recovery was engaged in reconnaissance and intelligence, and later became an intelligence officer in his brigade. Was buried in the Mishmar Ha’emek cemetery and was promoted to the rank of lieutenant on the tenth anniversary of his death.
