Rogozinski, Gershon


Son of Deborah and Israel. Born in Lodz, Poland, on September 25, 1914. In his parents’ home he received a Zionist national education and was sent to study at the Hebrew Gymnasium in the city, and he joined the local Hashomer Hatzair local branch. He was excellent at collecting donations for the Jewish National Fund and devoted many hours to educational activities among working youths, and after graduating from the Gymnasium, he studied auto mechanics and a group of graduates who went to training in Czestochowa and then was drafted into the Polish army. The army in March 1939 immigrated to Eretz Israel. For a period of time he worked as as a car mechanic in the garage of the “Dan” transportation company in Tel Aviv. He left Kibbutz Tel Aviv and joined his friends. On 15 Elul, August 30, 1939, he took a truck to Kastina to bring water to a kibbutz that still had no well, and on the way the truck ran over a mine that had been planted by an Arab gang. Gershon was seriously injured and died on his way to the Magen David Adom station in Rechovot. The kibbutz was issued a booklet in memory and one of the children born at the time was named after him. A list in his memory was also published in Davar.
