Richter-Bar, Nathan (Botzi)
Nathan, son of Hanna-Miriam and Levi Mordechai Richter-Bar, was born on October 10, 1928 in Bukovina, Romania. In 1940, he was deported with his family to Transnistria and through a rough road, until he reached the city of Mohilev on the Dnieper River. He escaped from there and immigrated to Israel with the children of Transnistria on February 10, 1944, and was accepted by the youth movement in Afikim. He accompanied caravans to Jerusalem and the Negev, was wounded in action and recovered. When the declaration of the state was made, the Syrians shelled Sha’ar Hagolan, and during the retreat sniper fire from Trans-Jordan hit Nathan. He fell on the first day of the state’s establishment, on the 6th of Iyar 5708 (May 15, 1948). He was laid to rest in a grave in the Sha’ar Hagolan cemetery.
