Rachum, Oded

Son of-Miriam and Vittorio was born in Tel Aviv on 29 November 1966. Oded began studying at the David Yellin Elementary School in the Hadar-Yosef neighborhood of Tel Aviv and completed his studies at the vocational school ” He was a member of the “Scouts” movement in the Maoz Aviv neighborhood, and two years later he joined the Zvulun Sea Scout Association, and Oded underwent two advanced courses in Michmoret and received certificates for this. Was surfing whether on land on a “skateboard” or at sea – on a surfboard, along with his friends he would go summer and winter to the beach “cliff”, and on the gliders perform spectacular tricks. He liked to dress well in expensive shoes and clothes, and in order to earn money he worked at night in pubs, as a lighting assistant in shows, etc. The replacement of gliders in better gliders cost a lot of money, but the surfing period was a Yaffa period. Oded was recruited into the IDF in early August 1981 and volunteered for the Armored Corps. He insisted on serving as a combat soldier, although he could, as a professional, practice his profession. He had denied the military doctors who had examined him that he had a Lev murmur. His strength and physical ability stood in his hard training, and he still had the strength to help his friends, support them, and encourage – as he called them. He was very proud when he was attached to the 7th Brigade, where his father served before him. During his last vacation, before he returned to serve in Lebanon, Oded was injured in his hand while surfing. Although his hand needed eight stitches, he did not take his mother’s request for sick days, and replied that his place was next to his friends. On the 28th of Sivan 5742 (11.6.1982), Oded fell in combat in Lebanon during the Peace for Galilee War and was brought to eternal rest in the military cemetery in Kiryat Shaul, leaving behind his parents and two brothers.
