Peretz, Yoram


Son of Astria and Yosef, was born on 20 October 1964 in Moshav Gadish in the Jezreel Valley, where he studied at the elementary school in the Ta’anach region and in the junior high school in Afula. After completing his studies, he began working as a metalworker, enlisted in the IDF in December 1982 and served as a transport driver in the Armored Corps, where he served as an armored personnel carrier commander, and later served in the Golan Heights. He took a short vacation to help his father work in the agricultural farm in Gedish, and on the night of 7 Sivan 5743 (18.5.1983) he went with his friend to spend a vacation in Afula. He was hitching down the track. A triple accident occurred near Afula. The car in which he was driving had strayed from the road and crashed into two cars. Yoram and his friend were killed. He was 19 when he died. The commander of his unit wrote to his family: “Yoram was a good, quiet man, who had a pleasant and calm atmosphere around him, and was always a devoted and disciplined soldier. Yoram was laid to rest at the military cemetery in Afula. He left behind his parents, three brothers and five sisters. Three years after his death, his older brother also died in a car accident while serving in the IDF
