Peleg, Yosef


Son of Mordechai and Ita. He was born on June 30, 1922, in Cluj, Romania, and immigrated to Israel with his family in 1935. Joseph’s father immigrated to Israel first, followed by Yosef, his mother and his sisters. Yosef completed his elementary studies at Nesher School in Haifa. Afterward, he began studying the framework of the school in Samet, Haifa, but was forced to stop his studies and go to work, but was forced to work in Nesher, first as an apprentice and later as a professional. In the years between his graduation and his enlistment in the IDF, Yosef took an active part in defensive and combat operations. From 1938, when he was a boy, he was a member of the Haganah; From 1946 to 1942, he served in the British Army, as the director of a department in the artillery field, in the Artillery Corps. Yossi was drafted into the IDF in late March 1948, and after a year and two months joined the regular army and served there until his death, and most of the time he served in the Ordnance Corps. At the Kachashar headquarters, an engineer, a senior examiner, an ammunition-center commander, and finally, within the framework of the General Staff, the head of the Land Budget Unit in the Financial Advisor to the Chief of Staff. In 1962 Yosef studied at the College of Command and Staff, and was sent to several professional training courses abroad, and during his military career, he also took time to complete his matriculation exams and academic studies. During his military service, Yosef was awarded the rank of colonel, and he was about to be discharged from the army and go to civilian life in November 1977. On the 22nd of Tammuz 5737 (22.6.1977) Yosef fell while serving. He was brought to eternal rest in the cemetery in Kiryat Shaul. He left behind a wife, a daughter and a son.
