Orco, Abraham-Amram

Abraham-Amram, son of Atzda and Tafra Orco, was born in Ashkelon on March 22, 1984. At his birth the baby was called Avraham, but from an early age the name Amram was added and everyone called him Ami. He grew up in a warm and loving family, with a mother who invested her all in her children. Ami, a handsome, intelligent and playful boy, began his studies at the Gevim Elementary School in Be’er Sheva. He stood out as a sociable child, who was always surrounded by friends, and was an outstanding student. After graduating high school, Ami announced his desire to contribute to the state and serve as a combat soldier. His family tried to persuade him not to enlist in combat duty because he was an only son, but he refused, and on 25 November 2002 he enlisted in the IDF and began his service as a combat soldier in the Shaked Battalion in Givati.
After completing the course, he advanced to the position of squad commander and later became a platoon sergeant, during which he was involved in several encounters and operations, mainly in the Gaza Strip, where he demonstrated exemplary performance even under difficult conditions and after losing friends. Ami was very attached to the roots and heritage of the Ethiopian community, made sure to know the language, music, history and customs of his ancestors. First Sergeant Avraham Amram fell during his duty on 28 November 2016. He was thirty-two years old. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Be’er Sheva.
