Ofengenden, Joseph
Yosef, son of Batya and Sender, was born on September 6, 1951. He studied at the AD Gordon elementary school in Givatayim and later completed his studies in electronics at the “Yad Synglovsky” in Tel Aviv, and he was an outstanding student, especially in the real sciences (and especially in mathematics), he was a favorite of his teachers, active among his classmates, and was very helpful to his friends who had a hard time in school. If he seemed right in his eyes, so he was willing to conduct lengthy arguments to prove his righteousness, and did not flinch from anyone – the school principal, teacher, or counselor – as long as his view was understood and corrected. He was a member of the Hanoar Haoved Vehalomed youth movement in Givatayim and his main hobby was the trip, and he toured with the small group he founded (the “Banda”) before he and his friends organized a big bike trip. Joseph was drafted into the IDF in February 1970. After basic training, he was sent to the IAF Technical School, and later to the Officers ‘Course and the Officers’ Officers Course. He completed the course of the liaison officers with a high grade (86). His commanders testify that he was devoted to his unit and his subordinates, and was an efficient soldier who performed his duties properly, responsible and loved by all those around him. He was discharged from the army as a lieutenant. When the Yom Kippur War broke out, he volunteered to set up and organize a liaison unit in a new tank battalion, which had been set up during the fighting. In three days he completed the task and all his commanders finished the praises. On Friday, October 12, 1973, in the early hours of the morning, his battalion entered the battle. Joseph’s voice was heard in the network at the beginning of the breakthrough of the Syrian alignment. In the afternoon the commanding vehicle was hit and his voice fell silent. Joseph fell near the Syrian village of Nassj in the enclave. At first Joseph was considered missing and after his body was found he was brought to eternal rest in the Kiryat Shaul cemetery. Survived by his parents and two brothers. After his fall, he was promoted to captain.
