Nudel, Avigdor
Son of Zippora and Ze’ev, was born on February 7, 1927 in Tomaszow, Poland. His parents’ home was dedicated to religious education. At the age of three, he was admitted to Talmud Torah, despite the difficulties of bringing him into the company of older children. When he grew up, he entered the yeshiva and the Rosh Yeshiva wrote to the parents: “Simcha is his mother.” When the Nazis invaded Poland, his family fled to Siberia, then 12.5 years old. Where he was admitted to fifth grade in a Russian school and was one of the best students. His parents could not keep up with the hard work they had been assigned, and Avigdor supported him and went out to work as an assistant in the kitchen 12 hours a day. Then he became secretary of the food warehouse. After 12-15 hours of study he would study Gemara. In Siberia he also learned the sewing. In the fall of 1946, the family left Russia and arrived in Stettin, Poland, where Avigdor was active in the Haganah. Avigdor was a member of the “Shahal” company of Youth Aliyah, founded by the “Bnei Akiva” organization of HaPoel Hamizrachi, and with this company he made his way to Germany and worked in training at Eshkol as one of the counselors. From there he left for France and immigrated to Israel on March 25, 1948. When he said goodbye to his family, he said to his mother, “Mother, do not worry, it will be good!” His first night in Israel is engraved in his Lev triumphantly: “I am in Israel, my dream has come true, and yet everything is strange and strange to me.” When he arrived in Israel, he joined the army immediately, along with his colleagues in the “Shahal” group, and served in a religious company in a battalion of the Alexandroni Brigade. He was among the pioneers of Jerusalem, fought in Hartuv, in the Triangle and in the Negev. Avigdor had a bright face, black eyes, a quick decision, and a talent for learning and good faith, especially in the sewing and sewing. During Operation Horev, a “liquidation” operation was carried out against the “Faluja pocket,” in which an Egyptian brigade was besieged. The attack took place on the eastern flank of the “pocket” in the area of Iraq al-Manshiyya. The Alexandroni forces broke into the village from the south and took over part of it, but their assault on the hill north of the village was repulsed. Meanwhile, the Egyptians recovered and attacked and forced our forces to withdraw. Part of the force was trapped inside the village. In this battle he fell on the 28th of Kislev 5709 (December 28, 1948). On the 17th of Kislev 5710 (December 8, 1948), he was laid to rest in the military cemetery at Nahalat Yitzhak.
