Nitzan (Tischler), Menachem (“Mendel”)


Son of David and Rebecca. Born in Bucharest on October 26, 1936, he spent his childhood in his hometown, where he began his studies and excelled as a student, and in 1950 his family immigrated to Israel and attended the Weizmann elementary school in Nahariya. After completing his studies, he underwent entrance examinations for the academic reserve and continued his studies at the Hebrew University of Haifa, where he was drafted into the IDF in August 1955, but in the meantime a Sinai system broke out in which he participated as a tank commander. At the end of the war, he returned to study at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in the Faculty of Natural Sciences in the Departments of Zoology and Chemistry. He also began his doctoral work in biochemistry. He worked as an assistant to Professor Schulov in the Department of Antimology and as a Professor of Biology and Chemistry at the Zionist Youth Farm in Jerusalem. He spent a short time studying at a university in Milan, Italy, to which he was sent. Devoted all his life to his wife and together with the children born to him in recent years, knew happiness. In his scientific works he deepened to plan and perform because he was thorough in all these. During his spare time, he would like to tour with the Society for the Protection of Nature in Israel (SPNI), with whom he belonged, collecting stamps, photographing left and right. He was interested in drama, and he liked to play tennis. He was also a member of the Amateur Astronomers Association. From time to time he would go to reserve service and this service was found at the outbreak of the Six-Day War, in which he fell in a battle that took place in Jerusalem on the second day of the war, on the 27th of Iyar 5727 (6.6.1967). He left a wife, a son and a daughter; A daughter has not yet completed a year of her father’s fall. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem. Several pages were dedicated to him in a booklet that appeared on behalf of the Nahariya municipality in memory of the fallen soldiers. His name and memory were included in the booklet “Four Not Back,” published by the staff of the Zionist youth farm named after Israel Goldstein in memory of four who did not return from the battle. In the book “Marinas Gabro” of the Paratroopers Headquarters was devoted a page to his history and description of his last battle. He was also devoted a few pages in the book “Nizkor”, published by the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and its student union, edited by Yehuda the civilian.
