Nissan, Subotnik
Nissan, son of Yaffa and Daniel, was born on 25.1.1947 in Tel Aviv, where he studied at the Pardes Elementary School in Ramat Gan and then continued to study at the Gazit High School in Ramat Gan. He graduated from ORT vocational high school in Jaffa with a trend of electricity. Nissan was a good person, pleasant and friendly, and he was always happy with his life and loved everyone, Nissan loved his family and was known among his friends And his right to help anyone who was in need. Nisan was drafted into the IDF in early November 1964 and assigned to the Armored Corps. After basic training he completed a series of courses, was trained as a cannon in a tank and sent to serve in a tank battalion. He was considered a dedicated soldier, who performed his role in perfection and precision and was admired by his comrades in the unit and accepted by his commanders. Nissan served as a guide at the Armored Corps School. One day a cannon turned upside down and hit his leg. He was wounded and hospitalized for two weeks, but demanded not to inform his parents so they don’t worry. At the end of April 1967, Nissan was released from regular service and assigned to a reserve unit of the Armored Corps. In this unit he was called for periods of reserve service and with it he fought in the battles of the Six-Day War, which broke out while he was in medical treatment due to the accident. The order to call for his presence in the Six Day War reached his home in his absence. His father, who had found the order in the evening, hesitated whether to inform him or to leave it until the next day after he had rested and had found transportation for him to arrive at the place of appointment. Finally the father decided to tell him about it that night, when Nisan returned late. Nissan immediately said, “Dad, help me pack my personal belongings and I’m going to report immediately. And so, on a painful leg, he left immediately, limping and suffering, to fulfill his duty as a soldier and a loyal citizen of his country. Nissan worked as a technician at the Elco factory in Ramat Gan. He worked diligently and devotedly and did well in his work. He liked his colleagues and was admired by his employers. He married Miriam and established, together with her, their home in Bat-Yam. He wanted to see his family grow and establish but he did not getto see that. A month after his fall in battle, his daughter, Sharon, was born, whom she did not know, and whose name was also Nisanit, in memory of her father. During the Yom Kippur War, his unit participated in the battles of containment and infiltration against the Syrians in the Golan Heights. On the 12th of Tishrei 5740 (October 12, 1973), Nissan’s tank was hit in the battle in the Rafid junction, and he was killed. He was brought to eternal rest in the cemetery in Kiryat Shaul. Survived by a wife, a daughter born after his fall, parents and sister. After his fall, he was promoted to sergeant. In a letter of condolence to the bereaved family, the unit commander wrote: “Nissan served in the unit as a tank crew member. He was pleasant and had a willingness to help others, to volunteer and to carry out his tasks. “A memorial plaque bearing his name was set in the synagogue in Ramat Gan, and his parents also donated a Torah scroll to a synagogue in Ramat Gan.
