Night, Wolf (Lilenko)
Son of Sarah and Jacob, was born on June 30, 1912 in the city of Zlotsov, Galicia, Poland. His parents died when he was a boy and he took on the burden of supporting the family. Zeev studied at a carpentry school, but in the years preceding his immigration to Palestine he worked as a printing press in Lvov. At the age of 12, he joined the Hashomer Hatzair movement, where he underwent pioneering training in the “Massad” aliyah group in Lvov. In 1933, he immigrated to Eretz Israel and was one of the first immigrants to join the “Hashomer Hatzair” kibbutz. When Zeev arrived in Israel, the kibbutz was located in Nahalat Yitzhak, near Tel Aviv. Ze’ev worked in the orchard, building, paving roads, agriculture and even erecting the high-voltage line of the Israel Electric Corporation in Naharayim. The kibbutz settled on the lands of the Beit She’an Valley during the period of “Homa and Migdal” and Ze’ev was the center of the field branches and the field guard of the Jewish settlements police. He developed good relations with the Arab neighbors, spoke in their own language, was treated with respect and called “Khawaja Wolf”. In 1940 he married Rachel Fliczu and their daughter Hagar was born. A few years later, Rachel and Ze’ev died, and their daughter had both a father and a mother. In 1947, the center of the Mishmar newspaper, Mapam’s journal, was established in Haifa, and in the early days of the War of Independence he was supposed to finish his term and return home, but on the day of the 15th of Shevat 5708 (January 16, 1948), on his way back to his kibbutz The village of the rioters in Balad a-Sheikh (Tel Hanan of today) was mortally wounded and died that day at Haemek Hospital. His last words were “Mother” and “Tal Amal”. He was laid to rest in the cemetery at his kibbutz Nir David (Tel Amal). Lay a daughter.
