Nahum, Ehud

Nahum, Ehud

Ben Yardena and Abraham. He was born on the 16th of Tammuz 5739 (11.7.1979) in Tiberias. Brother to Sharon and Hagar. The first years of his studies were spent at the Ayalim Elementary School in Tiberias. He continued his studies at the Amal Amal High School in his hometown, in a real-physical direction. Ehud was a gifted student who excelled in mathematics and physics, a perfectionist. A joyous boy who loved to spend time with his many friends and listen to music. Ehud was part of a cohesive group of friends. Together with them, he traveled on a rich trip to Cyprus. Relations between him and his friends were maintained even after enlistment. His friends described him as a great gift he could not take for himself, as a figure centered around her and enjoyed spending time with her, as a smiling, honest friend who kept his promises and served as an example to his friends. After graduating from high school he invested his free time in training in order to realize a dream and be accepted into an elite unit. Indeed, in mid-November 1997, he enlisted in the IDF and began basic training in the Paratroopers Brigade, where he served as a combat soldier and later went on to a training course and a sniper course. As a warrior, he was a professional, orderly, perfectionist and devoted, a reliable team member, on October 14, 1998, Ehud fell during his service and was left at the age of nineteen, leaving behind his parents and two sisters. The IDF Chief of Staff at the time, Lieutenant Colonel Shaul Mofaz, wrote to the family: “Ehud served as a combat soldier in the Magellan unit of the Field Forces Command, Ehud Olmert radiated modesty, helped those around him at all times, and was admired and accepted by his commanders and friends alike. ” The commander of the unit in which Ehud served continued to write: “The aspiration for excellence and integrity in carrying out his missions, reaching out to his friends, and even wanting to help his friends, even at the expense of his spare time, were Ehud’s most prominent traits. He never complained and always received everything with understanding, demonstrating a high personal level and command ability. That’s how he knew he should be and so his friends knew that they loved him so much as a soldier and as a friend. “Ehud’s direct commander eulogized him:” Ehud is like his name. Was popular with all the fighters in the team and in the unit in general. Ehud was shy and quiet and I never heard any complaints from him. He always accepted the tasks imposed on him as if everything was too small for him. Ehud was a commanding figure and was appointed commander of a squad in navigating and other tasks of the crew. Ehud was very neat, pedant. It was important to him that everything be one hundred percent. Ninety-nine percent was not enough. With his wonderful qualities, Ehud came home from home. “His friend Orit wrote:” They say that angels live forever, adorned with a halo of radiance in the sky. You have chosen a world of angels, shattered dreams of the future and illusions of the universe. There will be a rash touching the pain, a flower touching sorrow. There will be a blue sky hidden from the clouds of grief. Will be left with no meaning to the secrets of fate, to a hidden treasure, to the ravages of loss. “Many words that will come to tell your virtues are not enough, humility and modesty are just some of the virtues that were internalized in your shyness and innocence.” His friends wrote to him: “You left us orphans from a brother, an author. Your quiet, modesty, the willpower that pushed you forward – to succeed, to achieve what they wanted and did not succeed, a unique individual who promised and existed. The desire for excellence and above all – the infinite ability to give without expecting to get back, all these are just a summary of what made you upRo is such a special man … “His friends in the unit commemorated his name in a memorial booklet.
