Nachem, Shalom


Son of Shmuel and Sarah. He was born in Jerusalem on July 16, 1926. He completed his elementary and high school studies in a Jerusalem school and was a member of the “Scouts” After graduating from high school, he completed his military service as a police sergeant in the Jewish settlements in Haifa, where he joined the IDF in early February 1948 and served in the Carmeli Brigade as a sergeant. He participated in the conquest of Haifa and took part in the first march of the IDF, and joined the members of Bet Eshel, who were then in Kfar Vitkin, and established the Moshav Yogev in the Jezreel Valley after four years of agricultural activity, But then he left the village for family reasons and returned to the army. He joined the regular army in early December 1952. A year later, he completed a course in motor mechanics in airplanes, and he worked until 1964. He was then transferred to the technical school and head of the school until December 1965. In March 1966 he went on to study at the British Army School In Cornwall (England) and stayed there for one year – until April 1967. Since then he has served in the computer unit as an academic. On February 17, 1971, Major Shalom found his death in the course of his duties. He left a wife and three children. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Haifa.
