Moshe, Yosef (Yossi)

Joseph, son of Claire and Moshe, was born on the 11th of Elul 5712 (September 11, 1952) in Tel Aviv. He attended the Maginim elementary school and the Kugel high school in Holon. In high school he wrote a great work on the subject “The Political Theory of Islam”, with the help of his educator and history teacher, Jehoshaphat Netzer. Yossi and the teacher had a very deep relationship, even outside the school. In the Yom Kippur War, the student and his mentor, the two who were united in spirit and soul, fell. Yossi told his sister: “He was very attached to the family, and more correctly we were connected to him, and there was plenty of love and warmth in the house, and Yossi devoted a lot of time and thought to arranging every corner of the house. When he returned home for vacations, the house was full of new life, the joy of youth. He had lots of friends, and everyone was a member of our house, and Yossi loved life, the expanses, the sea and the fields He was thirsty for knowledge and always took books with him to read in his spare time, and he was a successful student, loved by his teachers, relatives and friends. ” Yosef was drafted into the Israel Defense Forces in early November 1970 and was assigned to the Armored Corps, where he learned tank training, a tank artillery course and a tank course. He was a real sergeant, an excellent gunner. “His friend Alex added,” He rarely talked about his army service, but sometimes when he opened his mouth, his eyes twinkled and he said, ‘You have no idea what a pleasure it is when you aim correctly and raise the target with fire.’ During vacations we would meet as old friends. More than once he had been given extra vacations. Yossi did not explain. It was only from his friends that I learned that these were prize vacations for his excellence in training. Senior officers of his unit in Sinai were sitting and discussing the map in solving a technical problem in which a number of our tanks mounted an enormous enemy ambush. Then the battalion commander said jokingly: “What’s the problem? We’ll bring Moshe Yosef and he’ll save us from the whole thing.” Yossi did everything modestly and did not like to stand out, but his presence was always felt. He was very serious in his actions, and never thought that there was a big role and a small role. Each role was performed properly, with the same attention and devotion. In the Yom Kippur War he served as a tank gunner in the central sector of the Suez Canal. On the 9th of Tishrei 5734 (9.10.1973) he was injured in the battle and fell. For his brave fight in the battle, he was awarded a commendation by the OC Central Command. On October 6, 1973, St.-Sgt. Joseph Moshe served as a tank gunner in a force that fought in the “Chinese farm.” At about 0100 hours, the force set out on a reconnaissance mission in the same area, Under the heavy fire of the enemy, St.-Sgt. Joseph Moshe z “l escaped with his crew from the tank and continued fighting from the ground against a superior enemy until he was hit and fell. “He said. He was laid to rest in the military section of Kiryat Shaul. Survived by father, mother and sister. After his fall, he was promoted to First Sergeant.
