Metzri, Aaron (Henry)


Born in 1929 in Aleppo, Syria, and in 1933, his father being the merchant in Europe due to the economic crisis in Syria, the mother immigrated to Israel with the three children, and later the father came and continued his trade in Tel Aviv. Aharon studied in a “cheder,” in an elementary school, and later in a commercial school. After graduating he worked as a clerk. While at school, he joined the Sephardi youth organization Degel Zion, where he served as a guide and commander. He continued with Hanoar Hazioni and eventually joined Betar and the Irgun underground. The family did not approve of its extremism and tried to conceal its actions from it. He participated in many trips – hard tours, actions against foreign rule, and was known by the Irgun as “commander of the Jonathan Gunda.” Aharon trained his apprentices for spiritual and physical training in preparation for the future. The Hatikva neighborhood and the battles at Abu Kabir and other points in the outskirts of Tel Aviv During the intermediate days of Passover, 1948, he participated in the command and the battles when the Etzel forces conquered the Manshiyya neighborhood in the north of Jaffa, The Hassan Salameh book, which was conquered from the Arabs, came with a large Arab attack to return the house to their disposal He was wounded in his arm and continued to cover up the retreat of his comrades, where he fell face-to-face with some of his soldiers on the 24th of Iyar 5708 (June 2, 1948) and was brought to rest in the Nachlat Yitzhak military cemetery.
