Mednitzky, Gedalyahu


Gedalyahu, son of Yonah and Moshe Mednitzky, was born in Kobrin, Russia in 1921. He immigrated to Israel in 1937. Gedalyahu belonged to Betar and twice was arrested and deported to Kenya and Eritrea on suspicion of belonging to underground movements. With the outbreak of the War of Independence, he dealt with the security organization in the Gulf, and on 28 Shvat, February 3, 1948, he fell on his way to Haifa near the Wadi Rushmiya bridge. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Haifa. He left a wife and a daughter.
