Marzuk, Avraham (Avi)


Son of Isis and Yosef, was born on 7.1.1963 in Ashdod. Avi studied at the Geulim Elementary School in Ashdod and completed his studies at the military boarding school near the “Reali” high school in Haifa. He was a tall, handsome young man. His classmates liked him very much and said, “He will be the first officer of our company.” Avi was always cheerful, and in his quiet way he calmed everyone around him. Avraham was drafted into the IDF in October 1981 and volunteered for the Armored Corps, where he served as a liaison officer in the tank of the commander. He had “golden hands”. When the Peace for the Galilee War broke out, and Avi was sent to his unit, and together with it he went to Lebanon and took part in the battles: On the 3rd of Tammuz 5742 (24.6.1982) he fell and was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Ashdod. After his fall, Avi was promoted to sergeant. He left behind his parents, two brothers and a sister. In his letter of condolence to the bereaved family, the defense minister wrote: “Avraham stood out in his willingness to help a friend in every field, and his attitude toward the missions was very serious.” His family published a memorial book in his memory, including his biography and description of his character and his path.
