Markowitz, Chaim


Son of Sarah and David Nehemiah was born on 19.9.1928 in the city of Iasi, Romania, and received vocational education at an ORT school. In 1943 he completed his studies and began helping his family. On September 12, 1947, he immigrated to Israel with the aim of bringing the entire family behind him. He lived in Tel Aviv for a short while, but the city life did not attract him and his soul yearned for nature, for the village. When he set out to settle in Mahanaim in the Galilee, the Independence War did not last long. Haim was among the defenders of Mahanayim and fulfilled the tasks assigned to him. With the expansion of the enlistment framework, he joined the Palmach on May 9, 1948, and then to the newly established Brigade 7, which took part in Operation son of-Nun Bet, the second attack on the Legion compound in Latrun, with the aim of breaking through. To the police court, but he encountered a fierce enemy fire and was forced to retreat, and on that day he fell on the 30th of May 1948. On the 17th of Cheshvan 5710 (17.11.1949) he was laid to rest in the military cemetery Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
