Maltz, Meir (Emil)
Son of Moshe. He was born in 1916 in the city of Szabaz in Poland and immigrated to Eretz Israel in 1939. In 1940, he joined the British army, participated in the battles in Egypt and Libya and was captured in Crete and returned to Israel with the captives of captivity. On 16 Av, August 13, 1946, Meir took part in a demonstration organized by the Hagana organization in Haifa against the British intention to expel the “Henrietta Szold”, “Yagur”, and “Katriel Yaffe”. Hundreds of demonstrators streamed toward the port to protest against the decision, and the British fired warning shots at the them, killing three people, among them Meir. He was brought to eternal rest in Haifa. His name is immortalized in the Haganah book and a list in his memory and in the newspaper “Davar”.
