Son of Esther and Abraham, was born on August 18, 1931 in Jerusalem, attended the “Tachkemoni” elementary school and in the sixth grade joined the “Scout” tribe in which he served as a guide, He worked in photography (his parents’ profession) and excelled in it, and decided to travel after two years of service abroad, to study in color and film photography, and to return to Israel He joined the Gadna in Jerusalem and at the outbreak of the War of Independence he enlisted in full mobilization, despite his young age who did not require it, and he was not restless until he was transferred Combat unit. Shalom fought in Jerusalem and its environs (northern Dead Sea, Ramat Rachel, Mekor Haim, Beit Hakerem) and participated in accompanying convoys. With the last convoy he went down to Gush Etzion, where he never returned. He was assigned with his class to the Russian outpost (the monastery authority) that overlooks and controls the Hebron-Jerusalem road. This was the most difficult and dangerous point in Gush Katif. Here the defenders stood in constant battles with a disturbing enemy and with Arab transportation that they had cut off. On Wednesday, May 13, 1948, the day of the Arab Legion’s heavy attack on the Gush, peace fell on his watch over his comrades, even before he turned 17. While he was treating a wounded man who had been taken out of the battlefield and risked his life, His last words to his friend: “You will withdraw as quickly as possible, because in 8-10 minutes there will be quiet here; Retreat! After he fell, he was promoted to the rank of lieutenant, and on the 17th of Cheshvan 5706 (17.11.1949) he was laid to rest at the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
