Lerner, Mordechai
An only son of his parents Yosef and Rina. He was born on September 24, 1946 in Bucharest, Romania. He immigrated to Israel in mid-1959 with his family, which settled in Herzliya. Where he studied at the Weizmann elementary school and at the municipal high school, in the physical-mathematical track. At first the boy had difficulty in the Hebrew language but was soon able to integrate into his studies and even in the social and sports life in the schools. Mordechai was drafted into the Israel Defense Forces in early September 1965, but as a member of the Academic Reserve, he studied at the Hebrew University of Haifa, where he completed his compulsory service. On July 13, 1970, he participated in an IDF force raid on a Jordanian outpost, and in the battle that took place in the Beit She’an valley, Lieutenant Colonel Mordechai fell. He was brought to eternal rest in the cemetery of his hometown of Herzliya. After his fall he was promoted to lieutenant. In the October 1970 booklet of the Technion House, the Mossad’s internal journal, a short article was published about Mordechai.
