Leibowitz, Nir

Ben Nedit and Moshe. He was born on February 19, 1985, in the hospital in Nahariya, as a middle son to his parents, brother to Guy and Tal. Nir grew up and was educated in Nahariya. He studied at the Yatzman elementary school, where his parents and siblings also studied in their childhood, and the same teachers who taught his family also taught him. Already at elementary school, Nir was fond of ball games, and after a brief hesitation he enrolled in the basketball school of “Hapoel Ironi Nahariya”. The training sessions took place every day regularly and demanded great perseverance – so Nir gained skill and many friends. In middle school and high school, Nir studied at Amal 1 and there he met teachers who taught his parents, because Nahariya is a small town where veteran residents know and love each other. Every year, Nir received a certificate of excellence in his studies, even though he did not spend much time sitting in his room and learning, but practiced steadily and enjoyed meetings with friends. In high school he joined the school basketball team and won the trophy. In the framework of Hapoel, Nir played in the starting team of a national youth team, which even qualified for the finals and won the Israeli Cup. During these years Nir grew to a height of 1.93 m, expanded and matured. In the 11th grade, Nir was chosen with other members to join the delegation, whose slogan was “For Tolerance and Nonviolence in Sport.” Members of this delegation, including youth from all over the country, traveled to Indinapolis, where they studied and returned to Israel. On 4 August 2003, Nir enlisted in the IDF and chose to serve in the Armored Corps family. After preparing for the winter training course in the snow and cold of the Golan Heights, Nir was sent to a course for tank commanders in Shizafon, during which he was flown to Gaza and participated in Operation Keshet Yehonatan in Beit Lahiya and received a certificate of appreciation from the commander of Battalion 198, Lieutenant Colonel Lior, 2, the Lahav company, destroyed an armed terrorist and foiled a terror attack. After the course, Nir was sent, at his request, to an operational company: “Wolves”. A few days later, Nir became familiar with the company and became fond of his soldiers and commanders. In August 2004, Nir received a certificate of appreciation signed by the brigade commander, Colonel Yehezkel Agai, For winning first place on a sports day in the “Barak” format. Nir was sent to the Estra outpost on Mt. Hermon, studied his work at the Marav outpost and served there as a tank commander and team leader. During his stay at the post he edited and wrote the ambush and printed it. After his death, his family, who arrived on a tour of the outpost, found the prints, with their signature: “Value and Writing: Nir Leibowitz 2 Wolves Wild Animals.” Nir fell in operational activity on Mount Hermon on 24 November 2004. On that dark night, Nir went out to ambush, was called back to the post, and on his way back the tank that commanded him and Nir, who was with a half body outside the tank, flew and was killed on the spot. Nineteen and nine months, and after he fell he was promoted to the rank of sergeant. Survived by his parents and two brothers. Nir served as a tank commander in the “Saar” company in the “Barak” brigade of the “Gaash” unit in the Northern Command. The “Wolves” company, the battalion commander, the company commander, all of them together and each of them served and still serve as a source of strength for the family, making sure to visit, call, maintain contact, and love. The battalion commander, Lt. Col. Shaul, writes: “Nir was killed in an operational operation on Mount Hermon, when the tank he was commanding turned over on his way back to the Estra outpost. From my personal acquaintance with Nir, and from conversations with his commanders and colleagues, Nir emerges as a very professional commander, with high self-confidence and impressive presence. In his role Nir proved impressive performance and dedication to the mission. my friendIn the “Wolves” company they will forever remember Nir, the basketball player and the outstanding commander. We embrace you with all our might, and hope you will find us a source of strength and comfort … “From a letter written by Nir to his father, Moshe, in preparation for his induction into the IDF:” My Nir, ours … You are the light of all of us, I trust you that the most important of all is to take care of yourself, and always know how to make the right decisions at the right time You will always remember to be yourself, because you are the best there is to be, “You have all the tools to deal with all the most difficult situations imaginable …” From a letter she wrote to his mother Nir, Nadir, before his induction: “On this day you officially leave the protective wings of your parents, And you have to spread your own wings (and you have!) … Everything you will encounter these days is new, strange, and sometimes scary, but remember that you have tremendous forces waiting for the moment to be discovered, and burst into full glory … These forces will keep you, “Nir left a gap, a gaping black hole, among his family, friends and acquaintances. His older brother, Guy, served at the time of receiving the news as a combat sergeant in the Lavi Battalion in the southern Hebron hills, and was on a tour that night when he was summoned to visit the battalion commander’s office. His father Moshe and his mother were at the time sleeping in their home, and when the informants knocked on the door, they did not know who they were announcing because both Guy and Nir served as combat soldiers … The family writes: “Sweet child / For a moment / especially we will not understand … / There is the traveler behind you, / Some who look or smile like you, / Speak or laugh like you / There is the secretary and there is mentioned / Anyone who knew you / Stay and stay something forever – “Meir, Nir’s friend from high school, writes:” I will always remember you, a big man with a smile on his face and an amazing sense of humor, just not believing how in one second we lost you for good … We will always try To smile for you because surely you want us to remember you with the broad smile and I’m sure you’ll want to see and look at us from above. I love you dear brother and I will never forget you. Keep us from your place among the angels and give the power to your rare family and your loving friends to continue to live for you … Hello friend, rest in peace! Loves and remembers forever. “From Ronen’s words, Nir’s command:” You were my commander, my teacher, the person I trusted … I remember the good times we had together. Since you became my commander, I have begun to see things differently. You’d give me everything with laughter, you said it would always be good. Optimistic, and always trying to help, I loved you so much the giving, gave and gave and never asked for back. You’re so lacking in me, you have no idea how much … I talked to you two hours before you went to your last ambush. We laughed at you for being young and how much you do not want to be there, and in the morning they wake us up and tell us that you are no longer with us … Nir, I was very attached to you, you were the best commander I had … I love you not only as a commander but as a person. You were a charming person, rare to meet someone like you. Hope you guard us from above, we will never forget you. “In my brief acquaintance with Nir, who spent hours and hours guarding the Checkpost together, I met a man with a bigger heart, who was willing to give everything to his friends and do everything for his team and for his soldiers. , A man who would give up as long as his soldiers got what they wanted. A superior commander and a wonderful person. “Moran writes to Nir’s family:”We had the honor to meet a wonderful person, talented and funny like Nir, but our acquaintance with you was brief but certainly satisfying and memorable. The house would change faces every second and a half and sang the song ‘Live in Florentine Dreaming of New York City’ and since then it was officially decided that this is the song of the delegation! … It’s hard for me to say ‘Nir was …’ Nir is still for me and always will be For me the same person when I needed a listening ear, was always around, always knew how to get us out of the same mood that every member of the delegation would enter at any stage I always remember how he kept telling me about his grandparents, how much he loved them, how much he had been killed in a car accident and how he wanted the wheel to go back. My promise to you and Nir is that I will never forget him, that I will never forget how much love he had in heart and soul and how much he could give and a lot to people he did not really like. . “
