Kushnir, Abba (Avi)


Son of Yaakov HaCohen z “l and Hanna, was born on June 28, 1950 in Montevideo, Uruguay, and immigrated to Israel with his family in 1963. Abba attended the HN elementary school. Bialik in Montevideo and completed his studies in the ‘Machzikei HaDat’ Talmud Torah in Montevideo. From his childhood he was a member of the Hanoar Hatzioni movement and even studied Yiddish and studied Jewish religion. Father was a good student and succeeded in his studies. A year later, the family decided to return to Uruguay where Father’s father died. Montevideo worked as a peddler for two years, but his desire to return to live in Israel increased from day to day, and when he was 17 he immigrated to Israel alone and left his widow in Uruguay. Father was drafted into the IDF in March 1968 and volunteered to serve in the Nahal Brigade. After basic training he was sent to Kibbutz Ein Hashlosha, where he served until his last day. His commanders admired him as a good soldier, dedicated and loyal, who carried out his duties willingly and efficiently. He quickly became fond of all those around him and acquired many friends. On the 18th of Adar 5739 (18.3.1969), private father died during his service and was brought to eternal rest in the cemetery on Kibbutz Ein Hashlosha. He left behind a mother and two brothers
