Kornick, Jacob (Yankele)


Son of Mordechai and Chana, a well-known Zionist family in Jacob’s native city, is Danzig, Poland. The father was one of the founders of the Maccabi movement and at the outbreak of the Second World War organized the immigration to Israel. Jacob was born on May 27, 1930. When the family arrived in Israel, the ship was deported by the British and the family spent several years in exile. On the island the father died and Jacob came to Israel with his mother in 1945. As a boy and youth he was a member of the Scouts movement. In Israel, he studied elementary studies and also at a professional high school in Safed. Until now, the War of Independence has broken out, and Yaakov is fighting for the liberation of Safed, where the family lives. Yaakov received an education at the NCR computer school in London, and when he completed these courses he began to deal with the computer work as a senior technician; He also had a special inclination to build electronic devices. In leisure he showed special tendencies for diving and underwater fishing. From time to time he was called to serve in the reserves and also before the Six-Day War. Yaakov was wounded in his duty at the end of the war and died at the hospital on Wednesday, June 12, 1967. He was buried in the military cemetery in Nahariya and later transferred to the military cemetery in Kiryat borrowed.
