Keller, Aryeh
The only son of Henrietta and Benjamin was born on December 17, 1927 in the free city of Danzig and attended elementary school. As the situation worsened, the family immigrated to Israel in 1940 on the illegal immigrant ship “Atlantic” and was among those deported to Mauritius. Aryeh stayed there for five consecutive years and took advantage of his time to study. In particular, he acquired knowledge of various languages and knew Hebrew, Russian, German, English and French. Aryeh immigrated to Israel on August 27, 1945, worked in packaging and was active in Hapoel. During the War of Independence he served in the Alexandroni Brigade, fought on the borders of the Triangle, participated in the battle of Kakun and was critically wounded in Ramat Hakovesh. Three days after his injury, he died at the hospital on 7 June 1948. He was laid to rest at the military cemetery in Kfar Sava.
