Katz, Zvi (Zvika)


Son of Jacob – Isaac and Luba. He was born on April 30, 1951, in Haifa. He studied at the Rambam Elementary School in Haifa and studied at the Yavneh High School for two years, specializing in building engineering at the Technion and became a “building engineer.” Zvika was a member of the national religious stream and was an apprentice In the Bnei Akiva youth movement, and was drafted into the IDF in August 1969 and assigned to the infantry. In 1973, he married Shoshana, and they had a son and a daughter, and in early 1975 Zvika enlisted in the permanent army, as a unit in the air force, And an officers’ course of the Israel Air Force, and rose to the rank of lieutenant. He was a disciplined soldier, honest and decent, and he fulfilled his duties to the satisfaction of his commanders. Zvi fell during his service on the 23rd of Adar 5738 (1.4.1978). He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Haifa. He was promoted to captain after they fell. He left behind a wife and two children. In a letter of condolence to his family, his commander wrote: “We all liked Zwi, and his image still looms before our very eyes. His family memorialized him by placing a memorial plaque in a synagogue. Yes, she donated a curtain in the youth building in Neve Sha’anan, where Zvi used to pray.
