Kanza, Eliahu


Eliyahu (Eli, Eliko), son of Hannah and Nissim, was born on the 26th of Sivan 5714 (26.6.1954) in Petah Tikva. Eliahu was drafted into the IDF in early August 1972 and volunteered for the Armored Corps. . After basic training, he completed a tank course in Patton and finished as an outstanding trainee. He was always a responsible and dedicated soldier. He did not complain about the exhausting training and knew how to cope with the harsh living conditions in the field. Eli loved the Armored Corps and saw the Second Temple Corps after his home in the moshav. During the holidays he helped his father with farm work. On Yom Kippur Eli was on holiday. When the war broke out, he hurried back to his unit, but could not find its place and joined another unit. On October 14, 1973, at the “Neveh Yoreh” intersection, during fierce gun battles in the armored corps, Eli’s tank was hit by a missile and he was killed on the spot. He was brought to eternal rest in the cemetery in Tel Mond. Survived by his parents and sister. After his fall, he was promoted to sergeant.
