Kahane, Shimshon (Mordechai)
Son of Isaac and Meggie, was born on June 6, 1957, in Algiers. Immigrated to Israel with his family in 1962. Shimshon studied at the Achdut elementary school in Ashdod, continued at the Alumim elementary school in Jerusalem and completed his studies at the vocational training center in Ashdod. Shimshon was drafted into the Israel Defense Forces in May 1975 and served as an engineering engineer for a mechanical engineering equipment course at the Neurim Youth Village in Kfar Vitkin. After basic training, he completed various professional courses and was sent to an engineering unit in the south of the country. The unit commander says: “Shimshon was a quiet and pleasant soldier, and he fulfilled every role entrusted to him with dedication and efficiency. Throughout his service, Shimshon maintained close contact with his family – his mother, his brothers and sisters. After several months of service in his unit, he requested to move and serve in a unit close to his home so that he could help his mother with everything she needed. On the 27th of Kislev 5736 (27.11.1975) Shimshon fell while serving in the south of the country. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Ashdod. After his death he was promoted to the rank of Corporal, and his family donated a Torah scroll in memory of the synagogue in his residential neighborhood in Ashdod.
