Kaabiya, Abd al-Salam


Son of Hiriya and Salah. Was born on 12.9.1964 in a village named after his family, Kfar Ka’abiya in the Western Lower Galilee. A fifth-year-old in a Bedouin family of ten. He studied at the Arab al-Kaabiya elementary school and at the high school in Shfaram, and completed his studies at the ORT high school where he acquired his profession, a car electrician. At the end of 1985 he asked the IDF to volunteer for his service, and wrote: “I am an Israeli citizen with an Israeli identity card, so I do not see any difference between me and any other citizen. But I feel something is missing. I want to volunteer in the IDF and serve like any other citizen. ” At the beginning of January 1986 he volunteered to serve in the IDF, where he was assigned to a maintenance unit near Acre, and was promoted to the rank of corporal. On September 16, 1988, Abed fell in the line of duty. He was twenty-four years old when he fell. He was laid to rest at the civil cemetery in the village of Kaabiya. Survived by his parents, five brothers – Walid, Anwar, Mamoun, Ayyub and Muhammad, and four sisters – and Tafa, Aida, Faida and Mufidah. In a letter of condolence to his family, the commander of his unit wrote: “Your loved one was a good and loyal friend to all his comrades in the unit.
