Joseph-Chai, Nehemiah (Nami)

Joseph-Chai, Nehemiah (Nami)

Son of Yitzhak and Tzipora. He was born on the 11th of Sivan 5707 (11.6.1957) in Nevatim. After a while the family moved to Kfar Yuval. Where he completed his studies in elementary school, and later went on to study at the Mikveh Israel High School in the field of agriculture. After graduating in ninth grade, he began working in his father’s farm. Nehemiah or Nami, as he was called by all, loved the work of the land, especially the work in the chicken coop and the care of birds. Every morning he got up early and started working: feeding the birds and then going to work in the fields. He was a great help to his father, who consulted him in many different fields and usually accepted his opinion. Nami was active in the company, full of joy, good-hearted and pleasant. He was gifted with leadership skills and excelled in his responsibility and independence. When he studied at the high school and was a trainee in Gadna, he learned to know the country, its sites and its beauty, especially he loved the northern region and traveled a lot with his friends, usually taking a sleeping bag and food, He was asked to take part in a pre-military driving course and was admitted to the course with great success, and Nehemiah was drafted into the IDF in late May 1975 and assigned to the IDF The armor. During basic training, he paid a rifle course. On Friday, June 14, 1975, he was sent on vacation with his soldiers. Nami arrived at the moshav in the late afternoon and spent the Sabbath with his family and friends. In the afternoon he prepared the things he wanted to take with him to his unit. But he did not get back to his unit. On Friday, 15 June 1975, terrorists infiltrated the village and began to attack its residents, while Nami was shot and killed at the cemetery in Kfar Yuval. He was followed by a father and five brothers and sisters, and his sister Simcha was also killed in the same terrorist attack.
