Israel, Avraham Nissim (Negro)
Son of Pnina and Isaac. Born on 28.12.1954 in Hadera, he moved with his family to Haifa, where he grew up and studied at the Yavnieli Elementary School in Haifa and continued his high school studies at the naval officers’ school in Acre. Avraham was a member of the Hanoar Haoved Vehalomed youth movement and took part in the Naval Department at Kibbutz Zevulun, where he spent several months in the Merchant Navy. At the beginning of April 1973, he was drafted into the IDF and volunteered for a Naval Course in the Navy, passed the entire course and served as commanding officer for the bees and stalemites. In 1976 he married his girlfriend Yoni. The two established their home in Kiryat Bialik, where their two children, Keren and Tal, were born. In 1979 he completed his academic studies and completed his BA in geography and political science. In 1981, he specialized in command of the missile boat and in 1982 took command of the missile boats. During these years he did many and varied positions in the corps. In 1986 he went to study in the United States, at the naval base of the US Navy, where he returned to Israel and returned to the Israel Defense Forces, where he served in the Israel Defense Forces’ C. Staile (commander of a missile squad). In 1990 he continued his studies in international relations at the University of Haifa. Abraham was a social center, loved by all his friends and colleagues. He was blessed with wonderful and unique qualities and was of stature, charisma, a born leader. Avraham traveled extensively in Israel and around the world, and during his few leisure hours he worked in surfing and played tennis. He had read many books and for years had written personal diaries and travel diaries. A blood test conducted for a diving course revealed a serious illness. For three and a half years he underwent difficult and exhausting treatments, while filling various positions in the corps. On the 29th of Tishrei 5752 (29.9.1991) he fell during his service. He died during a bone marrow transplant at Hadassah Hospital in Ein Karem and was laid to rest at the military cemetery in Haifa. He left behind a wife, two children, parents and two brothers – David and Erez. After his death, his family prepared a videotape of his memory.
